NASSAU
BROADCASTING LAUNCHES THE OLDIES CHANNEL AND
FORMS NEWS PARTNERSHIP WITH WCSH NEWS CENTER

PORTLAND
-- Every day for years, thousands of people have listened
to WCSH newscasts on the radio at 87.7 FM. When WCSH converts
to digital transmission of its signal, 87.7 FM will cease
to exist. Thanks to a new partnership with Nassau Broadcasting,
that tradition can continue on Portland and Lewiston’s
newest station 870 & 1470 The Oldies Channel.
As of
February 2, NEWS CENTER's morning and early evening newscasts
will be simulcast on Nassau's 870AM and 1470AM, The Oldies
Channel.
The Morning Report can be heard seven days a week. NEWS CENTER
at 5, 5:30 and 6 can be heard Monday-Friday.
870 & 1470
The Oldies Channel will launch on February 2, 2009 with
a playlist focusing on songs from 1956 to 1969. In additional
to NEWS CENTER’S morning and early evening newscasts,
The Oldies Channel will also feature NBC news every hour
and up to date weather reports twice an hour.
“The
traditional Oldies format has been missing from the Southern
and Central Maine market, “ said Patrick Collins,
Sr. VP and Market Manager for Nassau Broadcasting. “We
are thrilled to be able to return this format to the market
and partner with WCSH News Center 6 at the same time.”
"We
know Mainers have come to rely on our radio signal," said
WCSH President and General Manager Steve Thaxton. "We've
worked for months to find a radio partner to join with us
to continue this valuable service. The value of the service
is particularly evident during widespread or extended power
outages, such as the one caused by December's ice storm.”
WCSH
has begun extensive promotion of this partnership that
will continue through out the month of February.
