July 23, 2010 Barre, VT,  There’s a new addition to this years Barre Heritage Festival in downtown Barre.  The Granite City will Rock this Sunday for a good cause thanks to a group of area radio stations.  107.1 Frank-fm,  Froggy 100.9 and 1450 WSNO will present Area Code 802 Live.  It’s a free concert in city hall park on Sunday from noon to 3 that features some of Vermont’s best home grown musicians.  While the concert is free, Frank-fm’s Host of The Late Afternoon Show and Program Director, TJ Michaels says that the stations will be collecting donations for the National Guard Foundation.

The National Guard Foundation has provided Boots that will line the stage for donations to be placed in.

“This is our second release of Area Code 802 the CD and every year we choose a charitable organization to donate the proceeds to.  Last year we raised over $8,000 for Prevent Child Abuse Vermont and this year with so many of our Vermont Soldiers deployed oversees we wanted to choose a charity that was supportive.  Our Vermont National Guard Soldiers have left jobs, friends and family behind to defend our nation and that puts an incredible strain on the family unit.  The soldiers aren’t the only ones serving the entire family makes great sacrifices and the effects or emotional, financial, you name it!  We hope to be able to assist these families in the hard times they face and we honor and support them in there sacrifice.”

Area Code 802 The CD will be available at retail locations all over Central Vermont and the North East Kingdom in a couple of weeks and will feature 16 tracks of homegrown music.  All of the musicians on the CD have donated the songs they submitted to the cause.  Five Vermont Artists will be performing for free at The Barre Heritage Festival, Sunday in City Hall Park from noon to 3pm.

Michael Waggoner, who works for the radio stations parent company Nassau Broadcasting, instituted the Area Code 802 program last year and helped produce this years CD says that the level of talent on the CD and on The Stage this Sunday is incredible.

“We really do appreciate the local music community contributions and we have a great show lined up.   Country music phenom, Keeghan Nolan is coming, Red House, Tim Brick, Pecos Joe & The Bandoleros and Shutesville Hill! This concert is a great thing but we also have to thank some local business for there support of our Area Code 802 program.  The Courtesy Auto Group family of dealerships, Courtesy Toyota Scion, Twin City Subaru and Vtcars.com, Bond Auto Parts, Nelson Ace Hardware, The Great Outdoors, Jay Peak, Spates The Florist and Jim Brown from L Brown Printing.”

This Sunday’s Event promises to be a great preview of the upcoming CD and all for a great cause.
