RADIOTHON RAISES OVER $7,000 IN 29 HOUR LANDMARK EVENT
The
staff at Nassau Broadcasting’s 93.5 SBG in Stroudsburg,
PA recently completed an unprecedented radio event, raising
over $7,000, and awareness to the problem of domestic violence
and sexual assault, during a 29-hour radiothon last week.
SBG Morning Show Co-Hosts Chuck Seese and Jo-Ann George
kicked off the event on Thursday morning at 5am. The radiothon
featured stories of survivors of domestic abuse and sexual
assault, giving listeners just a small glimpse into the
life of someone in crisis. Women’s Resources staff
members also talked about the work they do to help victims
during the event, which wrapped up Friday morning at 9am.
Morning Co-Host
Chuck Seese said the radiothon had an immediate impact. “By early Thursday afternoon, Women’s
Resources 24 hour hotline volunteers reported an increase
in the number of calls they had received. People were getting
the message that there is help here in Monroe County for
victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.”
Volunteers and radio station staffers answered phones, accepting
both pledges to the agency, and bids for auction items donated
by local businesses.
“The entire Pocono Community should be proud of the
fact that we have such a dedicated group of workers and volunteers
dedicated to helping victims of domestic violence and sexual
assault.” Seese added. “We raised over $7,000,
which will provide counseling and shelter for domestic abuse
and sexual assault victims in Monroe County. SBG cares about
the Poconos, and we’ll continue to prove it by helping
community agencies in the Poconos promote their events and
issues.”
