STUFF-A-TRUCK
CELEBRATES 8 YEARS OF NEIHBORS HELPING NEIGHBORS
WITH RECORD BREAKING DONATIONS
Frank-Fm’s TJ Michaels and JD Green gather
with Captains Kim and Travis Delong of the Central Vermont
Salvation Army and volunteers in front of the ”stuffed” Bellavance
Truck at the Berlin Mall on Saturday afternoon.
Barre,
VT- Nov 23rd 2009, 1071Frank-fm, Froggy 100.9 and 1450
WSNO along
with members of the Vermont Army National
Guard wrapped up their 8th annual Stuff-A-Truck Campaign
to benefit the Central Vermont Salvation Army. The Bellavance
Tractor Trailer made it’s way Monday from the Berlin
Mall parking lot to a scale to be weighed and then on to
the Salvation Army’s Emergency food shelf on Keith
Avenue in Barre.
In a
little over 2 and a half days central Vermonters contributed
32,619 pounds or just over 16 tons of canned and non-perishable
food and $7,000 in financial assistance. Frank-Fm, Afternoon
Host and Program Director TJ Michaels says that in 8 years
the total contribution to the Salvation Army has worked
out to be 98 tons of food and $57,000. This set a new one
year record surpassing last years take of 32,307pounds.
The Radio Stations received a little help from Governor
James Douglas who issued an official proclamation that named
Friday November 20th Salvation Army Stuff-a-Truck Day in
Vermont.
Michaels and Froggy 100.9 Breakfast Club host JD Green braved
the elements at the Berlin Mall and broadcast live from the
back of a Bellavance tractor trailer. The broadcast began
Thursday morning at 5am and ended Saturday at 3:30 with an
emotional closing ceremony.
According
to Green; “We live at the mall during this
event, we don’t go home and we go on an emotional roller
coaster ride. Along with all the outpouring of support and
goodwill, we hear very touching stories from the people who
donate”
JD explains
that everyone knows someone who uses the Salvation Army.
The Central Vermont Salvation Army, headed by Captains
Travis and Kim Delong, reaches 10,000 Central Vermonters.
Stuff-
A –Truck is something Michaels is very proud
of. “Think about it, in however many days it takes
to fill the truck we’ve dramatically changed the future
of an organization that does so much in our communities.” He
adds, “This event in my heart and in the hearts of
many Central Vermonters ushers in the holiday spirit. It
is exhausting work but in the end…It’s all worth
it”!
