PIXY
103 AND BOURNE FIREFIGHTERS HOST THE 7TH ANNUAL “103
HOURS” HOMELESS FOR THE HOLIDAYS
West
Yarmouth, MA – PIXY 103, in
West Yarmouth, Massachusetts, participated in the 7th Annual
Homeless for the Holidays. From Wednesday, December 10th
through Sunday, December 14th, MattyB, a nighttime PIXY personality,
along with the Bourne Firefighters, lived in tents pitched
outside the Bay Motor Inn in Buzzards Bay, Massachusetts.
They lived outside for 103 hours while collecting toys for
the Marine Corps Toys for Tots Foundation, food for the Bourne
Food Pantry and cash donations to help the local needy of
Cape Cod and the Islands.
Home for the Holidays began in 2001 when Craig Poirier,
a Bourne Firefighter, wanted to help those less fortunate
in the community during the holiday season. Craig, along
with other local firefighters, being fans of PIXY 103, asked
for support from the radio station and together they created
the 103 hour event.
This year, Homeless for the Holidays brought in 1,500 pounds
of food; over 2,500 donated toys and raised about $15,000.
“A great success and improvement from last year. It’s
amazing how even in the tough time our economy is seeing;
people are still willing to drop a couple of bucks into that
fireman’s boot” stated MattyB.
