THE
LATEST NEWS Access.1 to buy seven radio stations in Pennsylvania, bringing total to 29 By Anthony Salamone The Express-Times (October 13, 2005) Nassau Broadcasting Partners L.P. has reached an agreement to sell seven radio stations in two Pennsylvania markets to New York City-based Access.1 Communications Corp. The deal includes stations WODE-FM and WEEX-AM of Forks Township. Terms of the deal are undisclosed; Nassau and Access.1 are privately held. Chesley Maddox-Dorsey, president and CEO of Access.1, said Wednesday the deal should be completed early next year. The deal requires approval of the Federal Communications Commission, according to Maddox-Dorsey and a Nassau news release. Nassau officials, including Rick Musselman, who oversees operations as general manager of the local stations, did not return telephone calls seeking comments. The FCC also did not respond Wednesday to a telephone call seeking information. WEEX, also known as "The Sports Monster," has in recent years linked with WTKZ-AM in Allentown and WYNS-AM in Lehighton to offer listeners a mix of local sports and national broadcasting from ESPN sports network. WODE owns "The Hawk," which plays classic rock hits. Nassau's other holdings include WWYY-FM, which carries adult-contemporary rock music. Maddox-Dorsey said the new owners plan no changes in the stations' formats, content or employment. "We love the market for the great stations and the fantastic people who work there," she added. With the Nassau additions, which include two in Stroudsburg and one in Mount Pocono, all in Monroe County, Access.1 will own 29 stations in five states. Maddox-Dorsey said this would mark Access.1's first venture into the Lehigh Valley. However, the company owns syndication and marketing rights to a nationally broadcast show that's on WAEB-FM, of Whitehall Township, called "Open House Party" with John Garabedian. Nassau acquired WEEX and WODE in February 2001. Its Lehigh Valley radio holdings compete in the 69th largest radio market out of nearly 300 markets in the country, according to Maddox-Dorsey. Access.1 Chairman Sydney L. Small was named in 2004 among the top "Most Influential African-Americans" by Radio Ink, a trade publication. Go to Target Market News homepage |
